Biography
Aberdeen delivered Gordon Begg to the world on 14 January 1868, and from that Scottish starting line he sprinted straight onto the boards and, later, the screen. Over the decades he morphed from stage regular to silver-haired character presence, turning up in 1924’s silent western The Bandolero, the breezy 1945 romp What Do We Do Now?, and—most famously—as one of Dickens’s memorable faces in David Lean’s 1946 triumph Great Expectations. His curtain call came on 4 February 1954, in Battersea, London, closing the show after 86 eventful years.
