Biography
Songwriter ("I Surrender Dear"), actor and author, educated at Pawtucket High School. He wrote songs for the Rhythm Boys (Bing Crosby, Harry Barris, and Al Rinker). Joining ASCAP in 1932, his chief musical collaborators included Nacio Herb Brown and Harry Barris. His other popular-song compositions include "It Must Be True", "Paradise", "Was It Wrong?", "Who Am I?", "Somebody's Birthday', "Sahara Nights", and "The Golden Years".
