Biography
Illinois greeted Grace Johnson first on 7 October 1878, and by the time flickering images learned to speak, she had already taught them how to feel. Between the scandalous whispers of 1915’s *Scandal* and the yearning loneliness of *Wanted: A Home* the following year, she carved a niche in silent celluloid; a decade and a half later she resurfaced one final time, riding the ebbing waves of 1931’s *The Last Tide*. Los Angeles closed her curtain on 28 February 1956, but the light she kindled on-screen keeps rolling.
