Biography

Guido Adami stepped before the camera only once—yet that single appearance left a permanent flicker on the silent screen. In 1914 he slipped into the role of the humble Venetian baker’s boy for Gennaro Righelli’s Il fornaretto di Venezia, bringing to life the canals, shadows and heartbreak of 18th-century Venice. When the final reel spun out, Adami walked away from the set and, history suggests, never acted again; the film itself survives as the lone, luminous record of his passage through cinema.
