Biography
Gustaf Callmén entered the world on a winter’s day, 3 January 1842, amid the cobblestones and gas-lamps of Stockholm. By the time cinema flickered to life in Sweden, he had already spent decades on stage; when cameras finally turned his way, he slipped into the skins of a sea-captain in *Stormfågeln* (1914), a man confronting his past in *Sonad skuld* (1915), and a relentless avenger in *Hämnaren* (1915). Exactly eleven months after the last of those premieres, on 3 December 1915, the city that first heard his cradle cries also echoed his final exit.
