Biography
Atlanta, Georgia, greeted Gypsy Abbott on 31 January 1897, and by her late teens the Southern ingénue had traded peach trees for klieg lights. Between 1914 and 1915 she stormed through early cinema, slipping from the gambling drama *The Man Who Could Not Lose* to the crime serial *Who Pays?* and the courtroom short *The Criminal Code* with restless energy. Off-screen she claimed director Henry King as both leading man and lifelong partner. Her final curtain fell in Hollywood on 25 July 1952, closing a life that had spanned the birth of movies and the golden age of studios.
