Biography
A Hamburg winter greeted Hanns Kräly on 16 January 1884, and from that Baltic chill he forged a career that skipped from stage to screen. Pen and performance served him equally: he helped shape The Patriot in 1928, polished the sparkling mischief of The Last of Mrs. Cheyney a year later, and a continent away coaxed Deanna Durbin and a hundred hopeful musicians through One Hundred Men and a Girl in 1937. The journey ended under Californian sunshine on 11 November 1950, leaving Los Angeles to remember a storyteller who had crossed oceans with nothing but words and nerve.
