Biography
A crisp autumn day—16 October 1886—marked the arrival of Harald Holst in Denmark, and the Danish stage and screen would never be quite the same. Over the decades he slipped into characters as effortlessly as pulling on a second skin, lighting up cinemas with the spark of Lynet (1934), bewitching audiences as the roguish Thummelumsen (1941), and lending quiet gravity to the title role in Søren Søndervold (1942). When the curtain finally fell on 1 February 1960, Denmark lost one of its most magnetic performers, yet the flicker of his on-screen legacy continues to glow.
