Biography
A Manhattan spring delivered Harmon MacGregor on 21 March 1886, and the city’s restless streets became his first stage. By 1915 he had stepped before the camera as the tormented lover in Bondwomen, launching a silent-era career that flickered memorably through Slave of Desire (1923) and reached a crescendo with the con-artist caper The Dancing Cheat (1924). Off-screen he shared his life with an enigmatic Eleanor—her maiden name swallowed by time—until the final curtain fell on 4 December 1948 in the salt-tinged quiet of Marblehead, Massachusetts.
