Biography

Harold Hartsell entered the world in 1874 amid the rolling hills of Connecticut, and by the flicker of early klieg lights he carved a niche in silent cinema. Between 1913 and 1916 he strode across the screen in The Law and His Son, commanded attention in The Seats of the the Mighty, and lent continental flair to A Parisian Romance. Off-camera he shared his life with fellow trouper Mary MacKenzie, their marriage a meeting of theatrical minds. The curtain fell for good on 1 October 1930 in Beechhurst, Queens, where New York City’s skyline meets the water.
