Biography
Harold Vermilyea made Broadway his home turf, clocking more than forty seasons between 1917 and 1957, yet he still slipped away long enough to haunt early television and, after an abortive flicker in the 1910s, to carve a quiet niche in post-war noir. Once the war ended, Paramount, RKO and 20th Century-Fox kept him busy in shadows and cigarette smoke—look for his cool menace in The Big Clock and the crackling tension of Sorry, Wrong Number.
