Biography
Harry English arrived in 1861 and stepped before the camera while the medium was still wet with invention. Between 1913 and 1915 he slipped into three early one-reelers—The Escape, After the Ball, and Playing Dead—bringing a stage-seasoned gravity to the flickering silence. His final curtain fell on 3 April 1939 in Englewood, New Jersey, closing a life bookended by the Civil War and the eve of World War II.
