Biography
Harry Knowles entered the world in 1878 and spent the next fifty-eight years carving out a quiet corner in early cinema. Between the flicker of nickelodeon curtains, he slipped into antiquity as part of the ensemble for the 1912 spectacle Cleopatra, then traded Egyptian splendor for the storm-lashed coastline of Shore Acres in 1914. That same year he stepped beneath the aurora of Northern Lights, sealing a brief but memorable trilogy of silent-era appearances. His final curtain fell on the leap-day eve of 29 February 1936, in Kansas City, Kansas, where the Missouri River kept its own silent watch.
