Biography
Born under the vast skies of Ogden, Utah on 23 March 1890, Hazel Dawn traded the mountain hush for klieg-light glamour and stepped before the camera in One of Our Girls (1914). Two years later she slipped into the title sandals of Niobe (1915) and followed that masquerade with My Lady Incog. (1916), sealing her brief but bright reign as one of early film’s most luminous faces. Off-screen she wed mining engineer Charles Edward Gruwell, trading studio sets for the quieter rhythms of a life shared. Ninety-eight adventurous years later, on 28 August 1988, she drew her final breath in New York City, the same metropolis that had once applauded her rise.
