Biography
Denver welcomed Helen Wolcott on 20 September 1892, and by 1915 she had traded mountain horizons for klieg lights, stepping briskly into silent frames. That year alone she slipped from The Beachcomber’s shoreline to the frantic Help Wanted office, then—still in her mid-twenties—donned feathers and spotlights for Diane of the Follies in 1916. Off-screen she took the name Hammond, marrying John Craig Hammond, yet kept the camera’s gaze squarely on her own. Eight decades later, on 23 April 1985, Santa Barbara’s Pacific sunset closed the final reel on her century-long story.
