Biography
Paris welcomed Henry Roussel on 8 September 1870, and the city’s footlights soon claimed him. Behind and before the camera he shaped stories—most memorably the intoxicating *Violettes impériales* (1924), the mystery-laden *Visages voilés... âmes closes* (1921), and the moral maze of *La faute d’Odette Maréchal* (1920). Roussel’s final curtain fell on 7 February 1946, in Bayonne among the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, but the images he set flickering on silver screens still keep his pulse alive.
