Biography
Hartford, Connecticut, greeted Henry Woodruff’s first breath on 1 June 1869; barely two decades later, he was trading the quiet of New England for the glow of footlights and, soon after, the flicker of silver nitrate. Moviegoers of 1914 chuckled at his antics in *The Lambs’ All-Star Gambol*, and in 1915 they felt the tug of adventure in both *A Man and His Mate* and *The Beckoning Flame*. The bright lights dimmed abruptly on 6 October 1916 when Woodruff’s story closed, aged 47, on a Manhattan street far from his Hartford birthplace.
