Biography
London welcomed Hilda Spong on 14 May 1875, and before the city’s fog had cleared she was already trading schoolroom rhymes for backstage whispers. By 1915 she held audiences hostage in *Divorced*, then sky-rocketed to celebrity four years later in *A Star Over Night*. Talkies found her just as fearless: in 1933 she stirred laughter and sighs in *Supper at Six*. The curtain finally fell on 16 May 1955 in Norwalk, Connecticut, but the footlights she ignited still flicker in cinema memory.
