Biography
April 26, 1894, Copenhagen welcomed a restless spark named Ingeborg Bruhn Bertelsen. Within two decades she had stepped from the city’s gas-lit streets into the flicker of Danish silent film, animating youthful longing in *I de unge Aar* (1915), royal daydreams in *Prinsessens Tilbeder* (1918) and village conflict in *Præstens Datter* (1918). Off-screen, she said “yes” first to playwright Paul Sarauw, later to Edgar Hansen, each marriage a new act in her private drama. The final curtain fell on June 26, 1977, in the quiet lake country of Wisconsin, USA—half a world away from the camera cranks that first captured her fire.
