Biography
Budapest first greeted Irma Lányi on 10 September 1869, and the city would remain the stage on which her life unfolded. Over the decades she slipped into countless skins on theatre boards and in front of the camera, bequeathing to posterity the silent intrigue of Kettös álarc alatt (1918), the gossamer tension of Pókháló (1936) and the tender warmth of Mámi (1937). Off-screen, she shared her life with actor-director József Ferenczy. The final curtain fell on 11 January 1945, still in the city that had always been her home.
