Biography
Born under the gaslight of Cincinnati on 23 April 1886, Iva Shepard stepped from the Ohio River’s fog onto flickering screens at the dawn of cinema. Between 1913 and 1914 she anchored two silent milestones—While the Children Slept and The Straight Road—then slipped forward four decades to surface in living-room America as a guest face on I Love Lucy. Off-camera she shared her life with two husbands: Lyle Clement first, later Joseph Singleton. The final curtain fell on 26 January 1973 in sun-washed Arcadia, California, closing a journey that spanned kinetoscopes to television tubes.
