Biography
An 8 November 1841 Clerkenwell dawn delivered John Hastings Batson to the world; eighty circuits of the sun later, Isleworth closed the curtain on 18 April 1921. Between those dates he stepped before the camera, gifting early cinema three still-glimmering gems: the lost-world wonder of She (1916), the coal-dust heartache of A Pit-boy’s Romance (1917), and the bittersweet flirtation of The Little Damozel (1916).
