Biography
Jack W. Johnston first drew breath on 2 October 1876 in Kilkea, County Kildare, a patchwork of green that would later launch him toward flickering screens on the far side of the Atlantic. Between 1912 and 1917 he stepped before the camera three defining times: as the earnest Country Boy, as the upright Virginian, and finally as the dream-chaser in The Land of Promise. Forty-nine years after leaving Ireland, he closed his eyes for the last time on 29 July 1946 in sun-washed Los Angeles, California, his journey from Kildare fields to Hollywood lights complete.
