Biography

James A. Fitzgerald entered the world on 9 November 1880, beneath the wide skies of California. Behind the camera and occasionally in front of it, he shaped silent-era stories such as the 1915 comedy Rafferty Stops the War, the 1916 morality tale Ignorance, and the 1926 drama The Wives of the Prophet. Nearly five decades after his birth, he drew his final breath in San Francisco on 27 March 1949, leaving behind a brief but memorable legacy etched in flickering black-and-white.
