Biography
James Beauchamp Clark first drew breath on 7 March 1850 amid the river-town bustle of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. By 1914 he had traded the Bluegrass for the klieg lights, stepping before the camera in Thanhouser’s cliff-hanger serial *The Million Dollar Mystery*. Two more quick appearances followed: a brisk dispatch in *Mutual Weekly, No. 67* that same year, and a newsreel cameo in *Pathé News, No. 98* come 1916. His final curtain fell quietly on 2 March 1921, three days short of his seventy-first birthday, in Washington, D.C., the city where he had once lobbied for votes and, at last, closed the nation’s capital chapter on his life.
