Biography
Philadelphia welcomed James Daly on 30 November 1853, and the city never really let him go. Between the gas-lamp glow of local stages and the flicker of early movie houses, he built a career that flickered brightly if briefly on-screen: first as the scheming lead of *The Fortune Hunter* (1914), then trudging down *The Road o’ Strife* (1915), and finally tasting the bittersweet *Sorrows of Happiness* (1916). Off-camera, he claimed Clara Lambert as his leading lady for life. The curtain fell on 9 November 1933, back in the hometown that had always been his first and last set.
