Biography
At an early age Jean Sargent moved from her native New York to Philadelphia where she attended a Quaker school. During her last year at a Swarthmore finishing school she wrote for the Philadelphia Record. As a member of the Swarthmore Play and Players club she took part in a revue. A new York producer heard her sing and directed her to Sam Harris for an audition with Irving Berlin. The audition resulted in Mr. Berlin hiring Sargent to sing "The Torch Song" he had written for the first act of "Face The Music." Her next Broadway show was "Flying Colors," in which she introduced the standard "Alone Together," danced by Clifton Webb and Tamara Geva. While in New York she made her CBS radio debut on Ziegfeld Follies of The Air. This led to appearances on the Lucky Strike and Manhattan Merry-Go-Round hours. In the film "Transatlantic Merry-Go-Round" (1934) she appears in the ship's ballroom singing "Rock And Roll," followed by the Boswell Sisters. Apparently she used the professional name Kit Crane in late 1940s
