Biography
Born in the clamor of turn-of-the-century Manhattan on 8 May 1895, Jennie Goldstein stepped onto the Yiddish stage while still a child and never stepped off. By 1913 she had followed the city’s siren call to the silent screen, starring in *The Lure of New York*, and her reputation only widened when sound arrived: in 1938 she tore hearts out as one of the *Two Sisters*, and in 1950 she charmed coast-to-coast television audiences on *The Billy Rose Show*. She lived her entire life within the same few city blocks that first heard her cry, and there, on 9 February 1960, she took her final bow, leaving Broadway and Second Avenue a little dimmer.
