Biography
Philadelphia greeted J.J. Clark on 23 September 1876, and by the early 1910s he had traded city brick for klieg lights, stepping in front of—and soon behind—the silent-era camera. Between 1914 and 1915 he guided three now-archival one-reelers: the sibling melodrama *His Brother’s Wife*, the contraband romance *The Smuggler’s Lass*, and the musical-cross-dressing romp *The Yankee Girl*. Off-set, he shared his life first with Rose Langdon, later with leading-lady scenarist Gene Gauntier. Hollywood’s sun finally set on him 13 April 1947.
