Biography
John A. Milton slipped into cinema history through side doors most audiences never notice. In 1915 he shaped the light-footed comedy *The Suburban*, followed a year later by the shadow-laced serial *The Crimson Stain Mystery*, and then—more than two decades on—returned to lend his touch to Cecil B. DeMille’s Technicolor swashbuckler *The Buccaneer* (1938).
