Biography
A wind off the Irish Sea pushed John Feeney west, chasing a sibling who had already swapped his birth name for marquee lights. When nosy reporters later demanded why he kept riding the rails to Hollywood, Ford shot back, “Because the tracks end there.” From stunt hand to gaffer to the captain’s chair, he stitched together a career on horseback, carving Monument Valley into America’s memory while critics sniffed that cowboys and cavalry didn’t count as art. The Academy disagreed—six times—tallying two of those statuettes for battlefront documentaries he shot while war scorched the Pacific. Away from the set he kept one marriage, two children, and a grandson named Dan who would one day catalogue the old man’s myths, lies, and genius between hard covers.
