Biography
On 16 May 1844, the Yorkshire village of Giggleswick welcomed John Hare into the world. He grew into a performer whose presence lit early British cinema: he anchored the 1915 adaptation of *Caste*, stepped into *The Vicar of Wakefield* the following year, and polished off 1916 by donning *A Pair of Spectacles*. Off-screen, he shared his life with Mary Adela Elizabeth Holmes. Hare’s final curtain fell in London on 28 December 1921.
