Biography
A crisp Berkshire morning in 1856 welcomed John J. Williams to the world; 17 March, Pittsfield, Massachusetts, became the first line of his story. Stage lights later found him, and audiences of the silent era remember the spark he lent to Peggy, the Will O' the Wisp in 1917 and the earlier Marse Covington in 1915. The final curtain fell on 5 October 1918, this time in New York City, closing a life that had moved from New England quietude to flickering flickers of early cinema.
