Biography
Green River, Wyoming, greeted John McDermott on 9 September 1893, and from that high-plains cradle he rode into Hollywood’s early spotlight. On-screen he slipped from swindler to collegian, leaving fingerprints on The Love Thief (1926), Patsy (1921) and College Rhythm (1934); off-screen he sharpened the same stories as a writer, twinning performance with pen. Fate closed his final reel on 22 July 1946 in Los Angeles, but the flickers he helped create still dance across vintage screens.
