Biography
A son of England, Johnny Doyle stepped before the cameras just as the silent era was finding its voice. Between 1914 and 1915 he slipped into three very different skins: a desperate soul in *Without Hope*, a bumbling would-be boxer in *Nearly a Prize Fighter*, and a wily card sharp in *Counting Out the Count*. The roles were few, but they fixed his face on flickering screens on both sides of the Atlantic. Four years later, on 24 March 1919, the projectors stopped turning—Doyle died in Chattanooga, Tennessee, leaving only those fleeting frames to speak for him.
