Biography
Columbus, Indiana, 20 July 1874: the day the curtain rose on Joseph Levering. Behind the camera he orchestrated shadows and light for *Defenders of the Law* (1931), corralled high-flying adventure in *Terry and the Pirates* (1940), and dissected matrimony in *Husbands and Wives* (1920).
