Biography
Born in Vác on the 6th of July 1891, József Berky stepped onto the Hungarian silent screen while the medium itself was still learning to speak. Audiences first met him in Sárga csikó (1914), later surrendered to his charm in Fehér éjszakák (1916), and still queued up two decades later for Maga lesz a férjem (1938). Off-screen, his leading lady was Cecília Lebovicz, his wife and lifelong co-star. The final curtain fell in Budapest on 25 September 1953, but the flicker of his performances keeps the light alive.
