Biography
Jules White, born in Budapest and schooled in the United States, launched his film career at the tender age of ten, performing in Pathé Pictures productions. In the early 1920s he transitioned behind the camera, editing comedic shorts for Educational Pictures. By 1925 he had taken the director’s chair, and after brief spells at MGM and Paramount, he was named chief of Columbia’s short‑subject unit in 1933. Over the course of his tenure, White oversaw the creation of more than 500 short films, cementing his reputation as a prolific filmmaker. His most enduring legacy, however, is his role as the principal director of the Three Stooges series from 1945 until 1957.
