Biography
A St. Paul winter welcomed Julia Dean on 12 May 1878, and from that chill she forged a performing fire that carried her to Broadway and, decades later, to Hollywood soundstages. Moviegoers remember her velvet-voiced gravitas in The Curse of the Cat People (1944), her regal sparkle amid The Emperor Waltz (1948), and the small-town warmth she lent Magic Town (1947). Off-camera she shared life and laughter with actor Orme Caldara. The California sun set on her story 17 October 1952 in Hollywood, but the reels still spin, keeping her very much alive.
