Biography
Fairfax, Virginia, greeted Lamar Johnstone’s first breath on 15 March 1884; two decades later, flickering nickelodeon screens began returning the favor. Between 1912 and 1915 he slipped into chain mail for Robin Hood, roamed biblical ruins in The Holy City, and navigated reckless fortunes in The Ne’er Do Well—three quick roles that sealed a reputation for swashbuckling charm. A scant four years after the last of those premieres, Palm Springs, California, closed the curtain on 21 May 1919, ending a life that had barely outrun the century’s second decade yet already carved a silhouette across the dawn of American cinema.
