Biography
Distinguished Norwegian actor with a formidable presence, a mainstay at The Norwegian Theater in Oslo from 1913 until retirement in 1958. Often seen as a dominant or evil character, such as his portrayal of the Captain in: Dødsdansen/The Dance of Death by Strindberg, and as Didrik Dale in: Medmenneske, by Olav Duun. But he also played many great roles in comedy and in the classical drama: Jeppe in: Jeppe paa Bjerget,(Holberg) Teiresias in: Antigone, and as Oedipus (both by Sophocles). In films he played mostly small parts, but he is well remembered for his appearance as Sebaldus in a very popular film: Fant, directed by Tancred Ibsen. During his long career he acted in several Radio plays, and in 1965 he played a leading role in the famous play about King Olav II, shown at an outdoor stage at Stiklestad every summer since 1954.
