Biography
San Francisco’s 1879 fog parted long enough to welcome Laura Hope Crews on 12 December. From the city’s gas-lit stages she sprang, a whirlwind of silk and mischief, conquering Broadway long before talkies beckoned. In 1933 she spun maternal steel into The Silver Cord, three years later lent Parisian fragility to Camille, and in 1939 floated through Tara’s halls as the fluttering, match-making Aunt Pittypat in Gone with the Wind. The curtain fell for good on 13 November 1942 in New York City, but the laughter and lace she left behind still rustle across screens and memories.
