Biography
Lawrence Grossmith first drew breath in London on 29 March 1877 and spent the next six decades translating charm into celluloid. Audiences still feel the chill of his 1944 turn in *Gaslight*, grin at his 1914 mischief in *The Brass Bottle*, and track his clues across Dartmoor in 1937’s *Murder at the Baskervilles*. Off-screen he shared his life with fellow player Coralie Maud Blythe, their union a meeting of footlights and affection. The curtain fell on 21 February 1944 in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, but the reels keep his sparkle alive.
