Biography
A Pennsylvania boom town, Corry, welcomed Leighton Stark on 19 May 1875. Within a few crowded years he traded the oil-scented air of home for the flicker of early movie lights, stepping in front of cameras at a time when “feature” was still a foreign word. Audiences first noticed him as the protective Chevalier in 1911’s The Two Orphans, then again that same year as the steadfast heart of The Mission Worker; by 1914 he was braving tropical heat in Soldiers of Fortune. The reels stopped turning for good on 20 July 1924, when Stark’s story ended quietly in Mawasquam, New Jersey.
