Leonore Thompson stepped before the camera only once—during the summer of 1915—to play the unlucky-in-love heroine of Poor Schmaltz, a one-reel comedy shot in Fort Lee when the town still thrived as America’s first film capital. After that single release, she slipped from the screen and from public record, leaving her debut performance as the lone trace of a career that flickered for a moment and then vanished into the glow of the projector.
