Biography
Hackney, 1872: a soot-streaked corner of London coughed up a boy named Leslie Victor who would trade the fog of the Thames for the footlights of the world. By 1915 he was swashbuckling through The Loyal Rebel, dodging musket-fire in a celluloid civil war; three years later he slipped on Cupid’s own mask in Cupid Camouflaged, letting romance run amok in silent mischief. Age did not dim him: at 65 he descended beneath studio lights again for Vengeance of the Deep, trading swordplay for seaweed shadows as the ocean snarled around him. The final curtain fell far from home—2 September 1964, Sydney, where the Pacific replaced the applause and a southern sun set on a life that had wandered from Victorian streets to the edge of two continents.
