Biography
Hartford, Connecticut, welcomed Lew Dockstader on 7 August 1856, and the spotlight never let him go. Under cork and quip he built a reputation that crackled from footlights to flicker-film, leaving celluloid souvenirs in the one-reelers *Dan* (1914) and *Minstrel Mishaps; or, Late for Rehearsal* (1908). Offstage, he claimed Lucin Brown as his partner in life’s duet. The curtain rang down for good on 26 October 1924, in New York City, but the echoes of his banjo-barbed laughter still circle Broadway’s rafters.
