Biography
Valentine’s Day 1875 delivered Dayton, Ohio, a future silent-screen chameleon: Lew Short. For three decades he slipped in and out of flickering shadows—chasing the Gray Ghost in 1917, defending The Heart of Maryland a decade later, guarding the cursed Black Pearl in 1928. Off-camera he shared his surname and life with Estelle Short. The projectors finally dimmed on 26 April 1958 when he took his last bow in Hollywood, Los Angeles.
