Biography
Born in Illinois on 17 September 1903, Lillian Burns stepped before the camera while still a child, lighting up the silent screen in A Florida Enchantment (1914), The Goddess (1915) and Green Stockings (1916). Off-set she took the name of her husband, director George Sidney, and together they navigated Hollywood’s golden decades. A near-century after her first close-up, she died in Los Angeles on 31 August 1998, one of the last living links to cinema’s wordless dawn.
