Biography
Birmingham delivered Lizette Thorne to the world on 24 November 1882, and by 1915 she was already haunting the flickering dark of nickelodeons—first as the desperate heroine of *The End of the Road*, then as the bruised-but-unbreakable lead in *The Bruiser*, and finally as the memory-walking dreamer in *A Dream or Two Ago*. The reels stopped turning, but she kept moving westward, trading England’s soot-streaked skies for California’s perpetual sunrise. Nearly nine decades after her first breath, she took her last in Los Angeles on 3 November 1970, leaving the Pacific to roll on without her.
